As an LGBTQ+ mental health practice, we feel it’s important to our mission and values to unequivocally denounce the recent surge in anti-transgender rhetoric and the scapegoating of transgender people in the aftermath of recent shootings. During these divisive times, we pledge to speak out in support of our queer and minority communities, and to remain a source of affirming and validating support.

In the days that have followed recent shooting tragedies, the majority of media coverage has repeatedly and falsely cast transgender people as central to the violence. In fact, both the media and spokespeople for the trump administration (whether official or not) have consistently leaned in on hateful and discriminatory anti-trans rhetoric and promoted anonymous sources and unverified leaks from law enforcement and the administration (which are later contradicted by official investigators).
LGBTQ+ advocates and many political leaders denounce the rhetoric and are calling for calm, cautioning people to wait for before jumping to conclusions or casting blame. But make no mistake: stirring up hateful and discriminatory attitudes among the general public with baseless lies about transgender and non-binary people is a purposeful Project 2025 tactic. It is deeply harmful and fosters stigma, discrimination, and potential violence. The horrifying effect has been to paint a target on a community that’s already living under intensifying political scrutiny and cultural hostility.
IntraSpectrum Counseling unapologetically denounces these deliberate actions. We stand firmly with our transgender and nonbinary communities, and the millions of Americans who support equal rights for all citizens and fair and unbiased reporting. We urge community leaders, media outlets, and the public to reject misinformation and prejudice, and to work collectively toward equity, dignity, and justice for all people. We reaffirm our commitment to providing affirming, sex-positive and kink-friendly psychotherapy for clients of all ages and across the spectrum of gender and sexual identities. Our resistance will not waver, and we are not going anywhere. Let’s take good care of each other.
